June 3, 1935 – May 15, 2024

Our beloved Johnnie (Bill) Calmes was loved and cherished by every one who knew him. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He was born on June 3, 1935, to the union of Walter and Estelle Calmes, in Brooksville, MS. He was the second child of four. He joined St. Paul United Methodist Church at an early age and later joined Springhill Missionary Baptist Church after his marriage to Christine Duck Calmes on May 4, 1959. He was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School with the class of 1956. He joined the United States Army while in high school. He also served in the Army National Guard.   He was an avid historian, and had a very keen interest in military history. He was also an extraordinary artist and loved to travel. He served in several areas in Springhill church, but was mostly remembered for being the first Scout Leader of Troop 61 here at Springhill church.
