Billy Carl “Bill” Bailey passed away at his home on October 8, days before his 84th birthday. He was the son of Fred and Flora Wise Bailey of the Lone Star Community in Union County. He graduated from Ingomar High School and joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17. He graduated from the University of Mississippi as a pharmacist. He served as a pharmacist in Tupelo, Aberdeen, Fort Payne, AL, and Columbus. He married Mary Ellen Williams in 1959 and they had two sons. He was a member of Bethany Primitive Baptist Church in Pontotoc County. He enjoyed “pickin’ and grinnin’” from an early age and continued until his last illness playing at The Junction in Columbus.



He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his sons, David (Dee Dee) Bailey of Philadelphia, MS, and Brad (Kelly) Bailey of Columbus; two granddaughters, Morgan (Caleb) Jay of Philadelphia and Mary Margaret (Andrew) Hanna of New Orleans, LA; great-grandchildren Bailey and Lucy Jay, James Hanna; one sister Joyce (Dwight) Gentry of Sulligent, AL; cousin Robert Shettles of New Albany; in-laws Janie Bell of Tupelo, Marie West of Mooreville, Kenneth (Patsy) Williams of Tupelo, and Linda Hall of Oxford, MS; several nieces and nephews and a number of relatives and friends.

Services will be held at United Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 1:00 o’clock with visitation from 11:00a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. Special thanks to the nurses and attendants of Enhabit Hospice and Lola of Visiting Angels.
