Roosevelt Cummings, 89

August 5, 1933 – June 20, 2023

Roosevelt Cummings was born in Baldwyn, Mississippi, on August 5, 1933 to the late Carl Cummings and Eulater Turner Agnew. He was 89 years of age at the time of his homegoing on June 20th, 2023. He left Baldwyn to join the US Army in April 1953 and he obtained the rank of Master Sergeant (E8) before retirement. During his outstanding military career, Roosevelt served in the Vietnam Conflict, trained hundreds of soldiers for combat readiness and mentored many more as well as being deployed to other
military destinations.



Roosevelt was awarded numerous honors and awards including The Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/10 LC Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Drill Sergeant Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge. During his last duty assignment in Army Intelligence, he received The Meritorious Service Medal and was cited for his “enthusiasm, dynamic and inspired leadership and expertise”.

Roosevelt was a true and faithful servant to the Lord Jesus Christ during his lifetime. The was a faithful member of True Vine Baptist Church in San Jose, California for more than 35 years. Much of that time was in service as church member, Usher (earning a Bachelor Degree in Church Ushering), Usher Board State President, and Treasurer. He truly loved the Lord and spent a lot of time studying the Bible. He taught many training session for ushers and mentioned many more. He served as a senior Deacon at True Vine. He truly enjoyed helping and guiding his church family.

He was a member of the senior men’s chorus and tried hard to blend in (bless his heart).

Roosevelt was looked up to and would do anything for his family. He will be truly missed as he takes his place with the Lord.

Preceding him in death is his father Carl Cummings and mother Eulater Agnew; 11 sisters Nettie, Effie, Annie, Pearl, Alice Faye, Geneva, Rosa Mary, Mary Lee, Jossie, and Emma; brothers Alvin, Wiley, Elmo, Annise, John, Roy.

Roosevelt is survived by sons Robert Smith (Louisville, KY) and Gregory Lockridge (Summerlin, Nevada), daughter Carolyn Lockridge (Henderson, NV); grandchildren Brandon Lockridge (Henderson, NV) and Jasmine Lockridge (Los Angeles, CA); great grandchildren Avery Lockridge (Henderson NV), and great great grandchild Kaylin Sarkisyan (Los Angeles, CA); one sister Lurline Cummings (Chicago, Illinois), two brothers Dabney and Troy Agnew; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Two special friends Prentiss Robins (Sonny) and Catherine Smith.
