Sylvia Faye Manning Baker, 82

July 27, 1941 – July 6, 2024

Sylvia Faye Manning Baker passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, at the age of 82, in her hometown of New Albany, Mississippi. Born on July 27, 1941, in Union County, Mississippi, Sylvia was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.

Sylvia’s life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. She is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy Dale Baker, and her son, Marty Baker, and his wife, Vickie. Sylvia’s legacy also lives on through her eight cherished grandchildren and her ten great grandchildren, who will miss her deeply. She was a beloved sister to Peggy Crumpton Roberts and her husband, Whitey. Sylvia was preceded in death by her sons, Ronnie and Phil Baker, her sister, Sue Anderson, and her brothers, RV and Hubert Manning. She was the daughter of the late Malcolm Manning and Effie Messer.

Before retiring, Sylvia dedicated many years as a supervisor at Benchcraft Furniture, where her leadership and creativity were greatly valued. Her interests were a reflection of her joyful spirit; she found pleasure in quilting and cooking, often sharing her creations with those around her.

Sylvia’s Christian faith was central to her life. As a long-standing member of Harmony Baptist Church, she contributed her time and energy to Vacation Bible School and relished the fellowship of church trips. Her support for her church and the Gideons was a testament to her generous and spirited nature.

Those who knew Sylvia will remember her as a creative, funny, and spirited soul. Her laughter and warmth were infectious, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Sylvia’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, faith, and service, and she will be profoundly missed by all.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at United Funeral Service. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the funeral home with Bro. Daniel Smith and Bro. Bobby Butler officiating. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Park.
