Biscuits & Jam Market kicks off the 2016 season

,

One of Mississippi’s top markets, the Union County Master Gardeners’ Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market kicked off a new season this morning on the banks of the Little Tallahatchie River in New Albany. The weather was not 100% cooperative, but we all know that a little rain cannot dampen the enthusiasm of farmers, gardeners or those who love their products.

Fifty early risers were treated to free biscuits and jam; biscuits, jam and coffee were available for purchase for those who slept a little later. As always, all comers were treated to free music by local musicians, such as this week’s Melissa Dunnam and Mike Carter, as well as to the fun of renewing friendships with vendors from last year while shopping their wares.

Locally grown produce and locally sourced specialty items were the order of the day.  A variety of flowers, plants and fresh vegetables, along with an array of special items like breads, meats, cheeses, fresh pasta, etc. were available for shoppers.

The Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market will be open every Saturday through August, from 7:30AM – 10:30AM.
