Supervisors hear visitors, transact other business at June 19th meeting
The Union County Supervisors heard from representatives of the Regional Rehab Center and conducted routine business during a 20-minute meeting Monday morning, June 19th.
Robby Parman of the Regional Rehab Center in Tupelo, accompanied by some of the center’s patients and personnel, spoke briefly to the board. He explained the center’s role in providing speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiology, etc. at no cost to North Mississippi individuals with disabling conditions.
Brandy Evans, a physical therapist at the rehab center also spoke. The Union County Board of Supervisors annually appropriates $10,000 to help with the operations of the center.
The board discussed the need to have timber cleared from a small tract of county-owned land from which the county road department wants to take dirt for road and bridge projects. The project was put out for bids last month, but no bids were received. The board discussed either having another call for bids or simply cutting some of the timber using county personnel to access the fill dirt that is immediately needed.
County Fire Commissioner Steve Coker told the board that a new fire truck for the Myrtle Volunteer Fire Department has been delivered. He said the City of Myrtle had paid for some add-on items for the new fire engine. The board voted to reimburse the City of Myrtle $3,103.07 for those expenses. After the meeting adjourned the supervisors inspected the new truck, including testing its siren.
In other actions, the Board:
- Approved moving Sheriff’s office dispatcher Logan Kyle McDonald from part-time to full-time status.
- Approved accepting the resignation of Karen McMillen as a full-time Deputy Assessor effective June 30.
- Approved part-time employment for Karen McMillen in the same position effective October 1,2017
