Uncle Sam Band performance to benefit city, county band programs
Uncle Sam Band will perform in a benefit concert on July 1st at the Magnolia Civic Center here in New Albany. This is a benefit concert to help support local school band programs in the county and city schools.
About Uncle Sam*
Uncle Sam played their first paying gig in 1970. The band was started by two Ole Miss students who thought it might be a great way to meet girls and make a little extra money.
They recruited a few musician friends, put together what little equipment they had and volunteered to be the house band at the Gold Room in Tupelo. After a couple of more or less successful weeks, they bought an old school bus from the Water Valley school system.
After painting their bus blue, Uncle Sam traveled the southeastern United States for the next five years, playing the music they loved.
The music they loved is the music many people still love today: Chicago, Santana, Blood, Sweat and Tears–just to name a few.
You’ve got a long holiday weekend. Come out Saturday to enjoy some great old music and support a worthy cause.
The concert is at 7:00 PM at the Cine in New Albany.
Tickets are $10 each, and on sale at Stoke’s Supermarket or online at brownpapertickets.com.
