The Battle of New Orleans to be topic at Luncheon with Books
Luncheon with Books will be held Tuesday, January 16, at the Jennie Stephens Smith Library in New Albany.
Frank Madden will review Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger’s latest book Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans: The Battle That Shaped America’s Destiny.
By mid 1814 in the War of 1812 the Americans were losing battles in Canada, the British had set fire to the White House, and hopelessness was spreading across the country. Major General Andrew Jackson feared President James Madison’s men were overlooking New Orleans. If New Orleans was lost, the British could cut off Americans from an essential trade route.
Kilmeade and Yaeger make history come alive. This book gives a new understanding of Andrew Jackson and his men.
A light lunch will be provided beginning at 11:30 AM.
