New Albany hit-and-run victim identified; police seek public’s help

New Albany hit-and-run

New Albany police say a female hit-and-run victim is in “stable but critical” condition, the result of injuries from an accident Thursday on Martintown Road.

New Albany Police Department (NAPD) sources say the victim, whom they identify as Sandra Elion, is in a Tupelo hospital with extensive, life-threatening trauma.

She was on foot, trying to get her mail from her mailbox, when she was struck a little before 5 pm, Thursday, Jan. 11, by a vehicle, which fled the scene.

Police are processing evidence they believe will lead to the identity and arrest of the driver of the vehicle. Persons with information, such as knowledge of a recently damaged vehicle, that might help the investigation are asked to call the NAPD at 662-534-2222 or North MS Crimestoppers at 800-773-8477. Identities are protected on all calls to North MS Crimestoppers, and calls can result in a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to arrest or conviction.
