New Albany businessman and civic leader Bobby R. Gault dies

Visitation and funeral services for Bobby R. Gault, will be today, Monday, April 29, at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, and the funeral service will be at 3 o’clock. Gault, a long-time New Albany businessman and churchman, was a highly honored civic leader.

Gault died Sunday, April 28, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He would have observed his 83rd birthday in about a month, on May 27.

Business and professional career

Gault had a long and varied career in business. He was employed at Mohasco Industries for 35 years and retired as vice-president of administration. He founded his own company, Gault Office Products, which he sold to Barefield Workplace Solutions. He continued working for Barefield. He worked briefly for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) while enrolled at Strayer College of Accounting in Washington, D.C.

School board and other civic work

Gault served as a member of the New Albany Schools’ Board of Trustees for more than 30 years. He served as board president for several years. For nine years he was a member of the school board of the State of Mississippi. He served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Mississippi School Boards Association (MSBA). In 2011 he became the third person to be honored with the Mississippi School Boards Association’s Board Member of the Year Award.

He was a George H. Henson Fellow of the Kiwanis Club. He was a 50-year York Life Mason and a Shriner.

Church work

Bobby Gault was a member of First Baptist Church, New Albany, where he served as a deacon, an usher and assistant general Sunday School secretary.
