New Albany, MS – Museum to debut new branding look at Museum Moments.

The Union County Heritage Museum will unveil the result of the lengthy branding process at Museum Moments on Thursday, June 27, at noon. A light lunch will be provided by the Pilot Club of New Albany.

The public is invited to the event to see the new brand and the process of how it has evolved.

Funded by a grant from the Mississippi Hill National Heritage Area and private donors, the new brand has been designed to reflect the many aspects of the museum and its multi-faceted programming and public offerings.

“We have people come to the museum regularly, whether they be from Union County or other places, and tell us what a great place this is and it is a well-kept secret,” said Jill Smith, Museum Director.

Well, we are ready for the secret to “get out”. We do a lot of worthwhile things and a lot of good programming. We want to be able to have greater marketing power. Hopefully this new branding effort will do that.

New look will unify marketing image

The new look is designed to unify the marketing image of the museum, as well as give news, advertising and social media posts a recognizable identity that will hopefully expand awareness of the museum and what it offers.

Working with Likemind, a Tupelo based company, the museum staff, and local and regional people have met to work through the branding process. “We appreciate the efforts of those who have met multiple times to work through the process of the branding concepts. Museum staff, volunteers, a business class from Blue Mountain College, local student and adults, all l worked together in this process.

“We are excited to unveil the new look to our community and supporters. So please come out and see the new look and learn more about this interesting process,” she said.

Brands can be storytellers

The concept of branding is not a new one by any means. What Nike has done with the familiar swoop, Wedgewood did with pottery in the 17th century. More recently Harley Procter of Procter and Gamble began mid 20th century using brands to guarantee superior quality. Remember Ivory Soap – It floats… It is so pure it is lighter than water. And so on it goes with Coca Cola with soft drinks and the Quakers with oats; with what has become badges today that are known and recognized with no words needed.

Brands need a reason for being, in that they must stand for something in order to connect with people and hopefully ultimately guide their decision making.  The Union County Heritage Museum is planning for the new brand to help us reach out further and to project our mission into the world in a stronger and more recognizable way.

“Brands can be storytellers, “ Smith said. “And we have stories to tell. And as I always say, If we don’t tell our stories, who will?” The public is invited.
