Baptist Union County hosts Health Care Academy
NEW ALBANY, Miss., June 25, 2019- Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County hosted a Health Care Career Academy June 10-14 for students completing the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade.
The Health Care Academy is designed for students who are interested in learning more about health care careers. Applicants were required to submit an application, transcript, and letter of recommendation. A total of fifteen students completed the week-long program.
The students toured various nursing and clinical units at Baptist Union County and Baptist Outpatient Rehabilitation. Multiple medical professions presented career overviews and answered questions. Health Care Academy students also participated in interactive demonstrations including surgery, nursing simulation, CPR, and radiology.
“This program is an excellent opportunity for students to see firsthand the opportunities available in health care,” said Walter Grace, CEO and administrator of Baptist Union County.
Baptist Union County offers a variety of services, including adult and pediatric inpatient care, maternity, surgery, a 24-hour emergency department and diagnostics. The hospital also has 3D mammography, TeleHealth services and an eICU. Baptist Union County has an excellent reputation for providing quality care and recently earned an “A” Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group and Outstanding Patient Experience and Patient Safety Excellence awards from Healthgrades. Most notably, Baptist Union County became the first hospital in Mississippi to earn five stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for the hospital’s quality, outcomes, safety and patient satisfaction. The Chartis Center for Rural Health also recognized the hospital as one of the Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals in the country.
