New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson reports that the suspect in a stabbing about 8 p.m. Tuesday is in custody.

“About 6 p.m. our patrol got a tip that he might be at a home in Colonial Gardens,” Robertson said. “They went to the house, surrounded it and took him into custody without incident.”

Arrested was Eddie Brown Jr., accused of stabbing an acquaintance at 401 Alabama St. Robertson said bond probably would be set Thursday.

“This was made possible by help from the general public,” Robertson said. “We were able to apprehend a dangerous criminal and I want to express appreciation for their cooperation.”

Original story:

Police Chief Chris Robertson said officers are looking for Eddie Brown, Jr., 32, a person of interest in a stabbing incident.

Robertson said officers were called to 401 Alabama St. Tuesday night and found a victim who had been apparently stabbed with a knife. Several individuals were present and some sort of fight had apparently occurred.

The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County and then transferred to North Mississippi Medical Center where he was placed in ICU suffering from a collapsed lung and internal bleeding.

Officers are charging Brown with aggravated assault. They have not been able to interview the victim because he is in ICU but he was able to identify his assailant.

Anyone with information about Brown’s whereabouts are asked to call the New Albany Police Department at 662-534-2222 or Crimestoppers of Northeast Mississippi at 662-773-8477.
