Courthouse to reopen after precautionary disinfecting

Union County Emergency Management Director Curt Clayton said the courthouse has been successfully cleaned and disinfected and will be open again Monday.

A rumor has circulated – untrue – that someone caught the COVID-19 virus at the courthouse. Clayton said that actually a man whose wife has tested positive for the virus was in the building Wednesday or Thursday. The man had been tested but the results had not been received so it was not known whether he also had the virus.

The closing and cleaning Friday was done out of caution using CDC-approved viruscide.

So far, there have been no cases of the virus among courthouse employees, Clayton said, and officials are working to keep it that way.
