Brooks home receives beautification award
A home at the southwest corner of Reeves and Glade streets in New Albany is the recipient the New Albany Residential Beautification Award for the fall quarter.
The house was acquired and renovated by Ryan and Adrianna Brooks in April, 2019. They live in the home with their three children – triplets, two boys and a girl, who are juniors at New Albany High School.
The Brooks family moved to New Albany two years ago from Granada, Nicaragua, where they were Protestant missionaries. They had to leave the country because of political unrest.
They moved to New Albany in 2018 because of their affiliation with Greg Spencer, then the pastor of First Baptist Church in New Albany. Spencer is one of several Southern Baptists affiliated with Grenada Christian Education Center, a non-denominational missionary organization.
Ryan and Adriana Brooks are originally from California. They continue working with the missions in Nicaragua, traveling to and from that country as possible to help manage on-going missionary projects. One of those projects is construction of a school in Pantanal, a small village near Granada.
Granada was given its name in 1524 by Spanish explorer Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba and thus claims to be among the first European cities in the Western Hemisphere. It currently has a population of about 124,000.
The Residential Beautification Award for Fall 2020 was presented to the Brooks family Monday by Sandy Shaddinger and Jolyn Cook, representing the New Albany Sustainability (Beautification) committee.
