Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said one of his deputies, Tanner Golding, was slightly injured leaving one accident scene and responding to another about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

“He was at a wreck on Hwy. 30 West and handed it over to the Highway Patrol when they gave out another wreck on 178 at Myrtle,” the sheriff said. “It was two vehicles with the road blocked.”

“About Union Hill Church (County Road 51 connecting Poolville and Myrtle) as he topped a hill, there was a car stopped or going slow and he had to leave the road,” the sheriff said.

Golding was apparently able to free himself from the car, suffering only a leg injury. “They were taking him to the hospital for an X-ray just to be careful,” the sheriff said.

The car reportedly hit a tree and was heavily damaged. “It was a mess,” Edwards said. “It’s a miracle he wasn’t hurt worse.”

No one in the other vehicle was actually involved in the crash.

There was no word yet on the extent of the other two accidents.
