NASD announces transition schedule for remainder of 3rd 9 weeks

On Tuesday, January 19, the New Albany School District announced a schedule for January 25-March 5. This plan allows for the safe transitioning from the hybrid schedule that was used in early January to a schedule that allows students being in school in person four days a week and utilizing a virtual Wednesday schedule.

“Our hybrid schedule worked well during a time when case numbers in our region and state continued to increase. During the hybrid schedule our number of positive cases and quarantine numbers among our staff and students were extremely low,” said Dr. Lance Evans, Superintendent. “We completely understand the need to get our students back in school in a traditional, in-person format and this schedule allows us to gradually increase the number of days that our students are back in the classrooms.”

Evans noted that it is in the best interest of the students academically and socially to be back at school and the district is continuing to be cautious as students return to traditional school. Numbers of positive cases and quarantine numbers among students and staff are reviewed daily. At any time school officials deem necessary, a return to the hybrid schedule or a full virtual schedule may occur if there are increases in numbers among students and staff.

Masks will still be required for all students and staff. The school district is still encouraging students to be transported by cars to avoid overcrowding on school buses.

Wednesdays will still be virtual school for all students in grades K-12 and the same Wednesday schedules will continue to be followed as they were in early January. PreK students will attend daily Monday-Friday.

School meals will be available for students who would like meals for Wednesdays. These meals will be sent home with students each Tuesday. (This institution is an equal opportunity provider.)

Full virtual school will continue to be an option throughout the school year. If students wish to transition from traditional school to full virtual school (or vice versa) at any time throughout the school year, they should contact their school building and speak to the Virtual School Administrator in that building.

In-person school will begin on Monday January 25 and the goal is to continue in-person school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays of each week. Virtual Wednesdays will continue through the remainder of the nine weeks. Virtual Wednesdays allow for additional sanitation in the school buildings.

Virtual Wednesdays will be:

Wednesday, January 27

Wednesday, February 3

Wednesday, February 10

Wednesday, February 17

Wednesday, February 24

Wednesday, March 3

In the event there is an increase in the number of positive cases and/or quarantined individuals, adjustments to this schedule will be made and properly publicized.
