County fair board planning to hold event this summer
The Union County Fair Board is moving ahead with plans to hold the historic county fair this year, from July 13-17.
They had hoped to have the fair this past year but the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic led local officials to cancel all public events.
All the traditional fair events and competitions are expected to be included with only some changes.
The biggest modification will be to senior citizens day. It will be a drive-through event including the free meal and useful information handouts but the popular Bingo game will have to go by the wayside this year.
Fair officials will work out social distancing as necessary for the children’s and young women’s pageants.
However, because the event is not scheduled until July, enough people may have been vaccinated and the pandemic may be under control enough to relax some restrictions.
Pageant entries won’t be accepted until the first of June.
