Wednesday morning incident put Ingomar school campus under a brief ‘soft lockdown’

An incident at the Ingomar Attendance Center of the Union County School District put that campus on a “soft lockdown” for a short while Wednesday morning.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards and County Schools Superintended Russell Taylor gave NEMiss.News this account of the incident:

Shortly before 9 a.m. on November 17, 2021, a truck driver was making a delivery at the Ingomar School. A person, (perhaps a trainee, but that is not certain) was riding in the truck with the driver.

The truck driver and the rider got into some kind of altercation. It became more angry and heated, and the driver apparently called his company for advice as to what to do.

The company is said to have told the driver to put the rider out of the truck. The driver did so and left the campus.

The rider was then wandering around the Ingomar campus. He appeared to be agitated and disturbed.

The school resource officer, Union County Deputy Sheriff Tommy Sloan, approached the man to find out why he was behaving in that manner and why he was on the school campus.

While Deputy Sloan sorted it out, the campus was put on a “soft lockdown” for about 15 minutes. Deputy Sloan transported the man to the Union County Sheriff’s office in New Albany, and the man was to contact someone to come pick him up.

Nobody was injured. No charges were filed.

Superintendent Taylor has contacted the trucking company for assurances that any such incidents would be handled more appropriately in the future.

Every school in the Union County and New Albany school districts has a sworn law enforcement officer on campus full time to deal with incidents such as this or any of a more seriously nature.
