James Russell, 81

December 18, 1943 – September 16, 2025

James Kermit Russell, 81, of Saltillo, passed away peacefully at North Mississippi Medical Center on September 16, 2025. Born on December 18, 1943, in Tupelo, MS, he was the son of William and Jimmie Louise Bass Russell.

James served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and continued to embody a spirit of service and dedication throughout his life. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. James will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Julie Parmer of Saltillo and Amy Decantur (Jason Mansula) of Tupelo. He is also survived by his three cherished grandchildren, Jesse Austin Richards (Amy) of Tupelo, Hailey Glisson of Edmond, OK, and Jonah Parmer of Saltillo.

He is also survived by his sister, Doris Williams of Greensville, TX; his brother, Bill Russell of Tupelo; and numerous aunts, including Sadie Bass of Pontotoc, Permelia Coggins of Memphis, Janice Bass of Pontotoc, Martha Stewart of Pontotoc, and Patty Burks of Pontotoc. In addition, James leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who will miss his warmth and kind heart.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Doris Russell, and his brothers, Thomas and Michael Russell.

A member of Northeast Church of Christ, James found joy and strength in his faith. He had a passion for fishing, golf, and the company of family and friends while playing various card, board, and video games. His love of competition and fun-filled moments brought people together and will be fondly remembered.

The Russell family extends their heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported them during this time of loss. James’ memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Associated Family Funeral Home of Tupelo is honored to serve the Russell family during their time of loss.
