Mississippi officer who shot boy, 11, in chest will not be charged
Yesterday, a grand jury declined to bring criminal charges against Indianola Police Sgt. Greg Capers, who back in May this year shot 11-year-old Aderrien Murry in the chest. Capers was one of the officers who responded to Murry’s mother’s home after the father of one of Aderrien’s half-siblings showed up to the house acting “irate”. Adderien’s mother Nakala Murry instructed him to call 911.
When Capers and the other officers showed up to the home, Ms. Murry said Capers already had his gun drawn when she came to the door. Capers then shot Aderrien after calling for everyone in the house to come out with their hands up. Adderien suffered a collapsed lung, broken ribs and a lacerated liver and will likely have health complications for the rest of his life.
Carlos Moore, who is representing the Murrys, says they will press on seeking justice through civil litigation. The Murrys have already field a $5 million federal lawsuit against the city and two police officers. Moore and the Murrys have repeatedly called on Indianola Police to release their bodycam footage of the incident. The police have yet to release that footage.

Trump lawyer Giuliani ordered to pay $150M to two GA 2020 election workers he defamed
A jury has ordered former Trump attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to pay $150 million in damages to two Georgia election workers he defamed in 2020. Mother and daughter Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss worked as volunteer election workers in Fulton County, GA, and helped count ballots. Giuliani accused the two women of tampering with the vote (which Biden won). In a viral video, Giuliani said, “Ruby Freeman and Shaye Freeman Moss … quite obviously surreptitiously passing around USB ports, as if they’re vials of heroin or cocaine”. Ms. Moss said they were actually passing each other ginger mints. An inquiry by the Georgia Board of Elections cleared the two women of any wrongdoing and found no evidence of fraud in Georgia’s election.
Despite this finding, Freeman and Moss testified before Congress last year that Giuliani’s unfounded accusations made their lives a living hell. Both women received innumerable death threats and were afraid to go out in public.
The jury’s award was over three times the amount Moss and Freeman were seeking. They filed suit against Giuliani seeking $24 million each.

Two shipping giants halt shipping in Red Sea over Houthi attacks
Danish shipping company Maersk and German firm Hapag-Lloyd announced today that they would be halting their shipping through the Red Sea after vessels run by both companies came under attack by the Houthis of Yemen. The Houthis claimed responsibility for missile strikes on two vessels today, one of them belonging to Hapag-Lloyd.
Since declaring war on Israel last month, the Houthis have fired missiles at and boarded numerous ships passing by the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. This is a key world shipping corridor which leads into the Red Sea and ultimately the Suez Canal. This weekend, the Houthis declared they would fire on any ship passing the Strait which they believed was either coming from or headed to Israel.
