Michael Keith Long, 67

October 23, 1956 – May 16, 2024

OKOLONA – Lifelong Chickasaw County resident Michael Keith “Mike” Long departed this life on Thursday, May 16, 2024 in Chickasaw County. He was 67. Born October 23, 1956, to the late Charles Long and Edna Earl Barnes Long, he attended school at Okolona High School. A patriotic American, Mike immediately joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served his country with pride and bravery. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and received his diploma in Tool and Die from Itawamba Junior College. Mike’s work life included over 20 years as an employee of FMC Corporation in Saltillo and he retired from Omega Motion as a machine operator. Mike enjoyed the outdoors and loved horses all his life even serving many years as an endurance rider. He grew up in the Okolona Christian Church. Mike loved history and was an avid reader of history. He was proud to be a Chickasaw Countian, Mississippian, and American. He was in “scholar status” in his readings and study on Civil War history. Mike loved his family and friends, enjoyed spending time with them, and doted over his three grandchildren.



A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Bubba Lollar officiating. Burial will follow next to his dad at Oddfellows Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered. Visitation will be from Noon-2 PM Tuesday only at the Okolona Chapel. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to serve their friends.

Mike is survived by his only son, Josh Long and his mother, Laurie Hood (Greg); 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lucas and Catie Long; his sister, Sandra Long Hendrix (Jeff, deceased) of the Troy Community; a brother, Charles David Long of Okolona; 1 niece, Kayla Tutor (John) of Tupelo; 1 nephew, Clay Hinds; and his 7 great nieces and nephews, Maggie, Isaiah, Samson, Noah, Ava, John Hollis, and Cora. He was preceded in death by his mom, Edna, his dad, Charles, and his brother, Joel Burt.
