William Scott Dunnam, 57, passed away June 10, 2024, following several years battling cancer.
Born October 21, 1966, he was a lifelong resident of New Albany and graduated from W.P. Daniel High School. He continued his education by studying Civil Technology at Northeast Mississippi Community College, Mathematics at The University of Mississippi, Civil Engineering at Mississippi State University, and welding inspection at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology.
Services celebrating the life of Scott will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, 1043 RC 157, New Albany (Keownville) with Reverend Dr. Dan Darling officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Friday June 14, 2024, at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church.
His careers were varied, spanning his entire life, beginning with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and continuing with HMC Technologies and Master-Built Refrigeration Solutions before he founded Dunnam Builders Incorporated in 1997. This is where he honed his talents and found his true passion for artistry and construction, restoring historic homes and buildings for many years. His quiet resolve and dedication to the community where he lived and worked tirelessly to improve led him to public service. Though not outgoing or a politician, he served as Alderman at Large to the city for two terms. His extensive knowledge of construction practices took him across the United States as a chief inspector for the oil and gas pipeline industry. He loved his community and church, volunteering quietly behind the scenes for Vacation Bible School, youth mission trips, and the Building Committee for many years.
He enjoyed along with his many lifelong friends, fishing, hunting, and music. Known for his fun-loving free spirit, he had a distinctive style that included sunglasses, a cap, flip-flops, and Hawaiian shirts. An avid outdoorsman, he loved nature and gardening. He hiked and traveled extensively with his beloved family, whom he considered to be his greatest accomplishment. Together with his wife Laura, they had three children: Bryan, Miller, and Elise, but the family was not complete without Scott’s constant furry companion Mac, who faithfully remained by his side throughout his cancer treatments. He was loved.
Scott is survived by his wife Laura and their two children, Miller and Elise, his parents, Allen and Lavon Dunnam, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his brother Randy, his father-in-law Dr. John Goudelock, who considered him a son, and first-born son, Bryan.
Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Carter, David Cook, CJ Hill, David Kelly, Randy Manning, Conner Noland, Jeff Olson, Justin Robbins, Doug Roberts, and Regan Russell.
