Iris Carneil Akin Meisel, 92

February 24, 1932 – June 19, 2024

New Albany – Iris Carneil Meisel, age 92, a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother passed away Thursday morning, June 19, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, MS. She was born on February 24, 1932, in Benton County, MS, to William Terry Akin and Annie Lou Graves Akin.
Carneil was a very nurturing and supportive presence in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and her two great grandsons, whom she loved deeply. She was known for her exceptional talent as a hairdresser, with a keen eye for style and had a gift of making her clients look and feel their best. She took great pride in her work and always went above and beyond to ensure that her clients left her chair feeling confident and beautiful. Her passion for hairdressing was evident as she believed in the power of self-care and presentation, always taking the time to style her hair and apply her makeup, no matter where she was going. Dancing was her true passion; she found joy on the dance floor. She had a deep appreciation for the beauty and elegance of flowers. Carneil will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her only daughter, Teresa Massengill (Malcolm); her one granddaughter, Sallie Ann Massengill Blair-Messer (Matthew); two great-grandsons, Ethan Blair and Eli Blair. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard Meisel; seven sisters, and four brothers.
There will be a graveside gathering Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 5:00 pm at Ashland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
