Tony L. Swords, 78

July 30, 1945 – July 28, 2024

Tony L. Swords, 78, lifelong resident of Union County, passed away peacefully Sunday July 28, 2024, at New Albany Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service honoring Mr. Swords life will be held at a later date. New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care will be handling the arrangements.

Born July 30, 1945, in New Albany, MS to the late L. C. and Hazel Horton Swords, Mr. Swords received his education from the Pontotoc Public School System. A man of strong work ethic, he was employed for fifty years as a sewing machine mechanic with local Companys in Pontotoc such as Deville, Sealy, and Ideal Foam, until his retirement.

A Christian, Mr. Swords possessed a “laid back’ personality, who believed in the traditional ways of doing things, and loved the simple things in life. He was an old school electrician, and “Jack of all Trades”, who did his on electrical work, worked on his own house, and fixed anything that needed fixing. When he wasn’t working, Mr. Swords had a great passion for the outdoors, and found much joy in fishing, hunting, camping, and farming. Most importantly, Mr. Swords greatest accomplishment was his family. He bragged on his two boys any chance he got and wore the title of “Pawpaw” proudly. Mr. Sword’s life reminds us that true wealth is not measured in money or status, but in the legacy, we leave behind for those we love and inspire.

Those left to cherish his memories include two sons, Andy Swords (Vicky), and Marty Swords (Lisa), two sisters, June Harkness, and Becky Swords, two brothers, Rickie Swords (Pat), and Charlie Swords (Margaret), four grandchildren, Austin Swords, Treasure Basden (Ben), Alexandria “Ale” Works (Nate), and Collin Swords (Morgan), six great grandchildren, Jobe Basden, Dezi Basden, Andi Basden, Greyson Swords, Lexi Works, and Lyric Works, and a brother in law, Leighton Harkness.

New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care invites you to share memories with Mr. Swords family.
