Robert “Bobby” Henry, Jr., 90

January 11, 1934 – August 4, 2024

Robert Henry, Jr., affectionately known as Bobby by friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024, in New Albany, MS, at the age of 90. Born on January 11, 1934, in Union County, MS, to Robert W. Henry and Flossie Mae Purvis Henry. Bobby was a man of intelligence, kindness, and a gentle disposition that touched the lives of all who knew him. Bobby was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Bobby’s early years in Union County were the foundation of a life characterized by hard work, service, and a love for his community. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, he dedicated over thirty years to the Union County Baptist Memorial Hospital as a maintenance worker, where his diligence and expertise were highly valued.

The same hands that skillfully managed hospital maintenance tasks were also known for cultivating a bountiful vegetable garden. Bobby’s love for gardening was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his patience and connection to the earth. He took immense pride in his garden.

Bobby’s capacity to care for others extended beyond his garden. He was also a fix-it man, known for his ability to repair just about anything. His carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills were not just for keeping his own home in order; he often lent a helping hand to those in need, doing so with a quiet humility that defined his character.

One of Bobby’s most passionate involvements was with the Liberty School House Community Center. He believed in the value of preserving history and fostering community spirit, dedicating his time and talents to ensure the center remained a vibrant part of local heritage.

Bobby’s legacy is lovingly cherished by his family, who stood as the center of his world. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Suzette Henry Miller and her husband Robin; his son, Robert Henry III and wife Patty; his seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who all brought him immense joy and pride. His sister, Lorraine Henry Ballard, will remember her brother with fondness and affection. Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Henry, his parents, and his sister Joangelle Henry Gaines. Each family member will hold onto the memory of his gentle spirit and loving heart.

Those who knew Bobby will remember him as a man who spoke softly but carried a wealth of knowledge and compassion. His kind and gentle ways left an indelible mark on his community, and his intelligence shone through in every task he undertook, every conversation he held, and in the love he had for his family.

Bobby’s journey through life was marked by the simple, profound moments of helping others, nurturing growth, and building a legacy of love that will forever be remembered.
