Sammie “Pony” Brown
He was a people person who had such a humble spirit, never meeting a stranger, affectionately known by his family and many friends as “Pony” passed away humbly on November 9, 2024 at the North Mississippi Medical Center surrounded by the love and care of his family.
In his early years, he began working at Reeds Manufactory in Tupelo, Mississippi; Columbus Airport in Columbus, Mississippi; Kent’s Farm in Okolona, Mississippi, where he worked in the fields in Crawford, Mississippi. This is where he met and encountered the love of his life Annie Will Brooks.
Sammie and Annie Will Brooks united in holy matrimony, and they were blessed to have enjoyed sixty-two years of life together.
He enjoyed life to the fullest, fishing, cooking, hunting were just to name a few of his pastime hobbies and spending quality time with his family and many friends.
He is leaving behind to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Annie W. Brown of Tupelo, MS., one daughter, Shelia (Mike) Brown of Atlanta, Georgia ; three sons, Donnie (Francis) Brown; Terry (Mary) Brown; Sammie (Jackie) Brown, Jr. all of Tupelo, Mississippi, one sister, Albert Martin of Kankakee, Illinois; one special niece Daniell McNeil; 2 special granddaughters, Teneia Brown; Wakkia Moody both of Atlanta, Georgia, and a host of several nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and the people of the community whom he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Rachel Martin, one son; Eric Brown, two brothers; Willie C. Martin; Joe Martin, two sisters, Mary Brown and Sylvia Tate.
