John Lee Hendrix, Sr., 72
May 7, 1952 – November 21, 2024
John Lee Hendrix Sr. was born on May 7, 1952 in the Pine Grove community to Porter Sr. and Sarah Louise Hendrix. He was a 1970 graduate of Shannon High School. For many years, he worked in upholstery until becoming disabled. He loved music, playing his guitar, and singing with his family, as well as talking into his CB radio.
He was one of the leaders of the Boy Scouts community troop. Also, he was one of the best shade tree mechanics around. He loved helping others. John confessed his belief in Christ at an early age at Pine Grove MB Church and remained faithful until his health failed him. There he served as deacon for over 40 years and headed the outreach ministry. He was a part of the choirs and music department. He also served as the worship master of Pine Grove Lodge #547 and The Joshua of the Heroines of Jericho.
On December 15, 1972, John was united in holy matrimony with Joann Heard Hendrix. To this union, three children were born. John was a faithful child of God, devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather, and a dedicated brother. His love for God and His Word was shared in conversations with all he met. A couple of quotes he often shared with his family were, “Much prayer, much power…little prayer, little power” and “Pray much.”
He leaves to cherish his memories– his devoted wife, Joann; two daughters, Twyla (Marcel) Humphrey, Tupelo, MS, and Tanzaia Hendrix, Shannon, MS; one son, John L. (Taisha) Hendrix, Jr., Tupelo, MS; and a special son Kenya Parks, Tupelo, MS; three sisters, Katherine Martin and Lorena (William) Penrose, both of Shannon, MS, Tracy Simpson, Verona, MS; four brothers, William Hendrix, Dover, DE, Porter Hendrix Jr. and Joseph Hendrix, Shannon, MS, Stevie (Vanessa) Hendrix, Tupelo, MS; three sisters-in-law, Arma (Joe) Seals, Shannon, MS, Daisy (H.B.)
