Rickey Henry, 73
August 12, 1951 – November 25, 2024
Rickey Elmer Henry “Pop”, age 73, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee.
He was born August 12, 1951 to Robert Edgar and Beatrice Cox Henry. He was married to the love of his life, Judith “Judy” Sanford Henry, for 52 years and built a wonderful life with her. His pride and joy was his son, Paul and his two beautiful granddaughters, Brooklyn and Mia whom he adored and loved spending any time he could with them, supporting them in anything they were involved in, and lovingly joking with them any chance he could get. Pop took care of his family so well. He loved big and he was loved by so many in return.
Rickey loved to spend time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed being at his cabin at Pickwick Lake, riding the golf cart or side by side around Mill Creek, fishing, eating good food, especially steak, shrimp, and drinking a cold Coca-cola. He loved his animals with all his heart, his current faithful companion Annie was right by his side wherever he went. He loved watching ball games, looking at cars at Cruising the Coast, and traveling around the world with Judy and their friends, seeing new places and doing fun things. He had the chance to see many places including Italy, Peru, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Egypt, China, India, Russia, and many more.
Rickey was currently retired but had worked his whole life in many different capacities including many years at Piper Industries in New Albany in the area of Industrial Engineering. He was an extremely hard worker and a skilled craftsman. He could fix anything and make anything that Judy or anyone came up with the idea for, no matter what it was, all he really had to have was a picture. He had more than a normal amount of patience and would quietly go along with whatever the task was and make it happen. Somehow he had a way to make things work even when others had tried over and over again; it seemed like he had a magic touch.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Sanford Henry, son Paul Henry, daughter-in-law Emily, two granddaughters, Brooklyn Elise and Mia Layne of New Albany. One sister, Gaye Dunaway of Saltillo. Two brothers-in-law, Michael Sanford of New Albany and Bobby Mills of Saltillo; and one sister-in-law, Patricia Richardson (Rickey) of Madison and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who he loved dearly.
Special thanks to his nieces Karen and Kristen and friends Jeremy and Jennifer Holland, who are like Pop’s children also, for helping take care of him and the family during his hospital stay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dane “Dude” Henry, sisters Bobbie Anne Hamilton, Jean Mills, and Darla Jane Henry.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Holland, Gary Barnett, Timothy Richardson, Timmy Henry, Tim Swann, and Mike Hastings. Michael Sanford will be serving as an Honorary Pallbearer.
