Sandy Kent, 73

Sandy Renee Latham Kent, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on August 16, 1951, in New Albany, Sandy was a lifelong resident of the town she loved. Her gentle departure took place in the same charming community where she first entered the world, surrounded by the warmth of her loving family.



Sandy was the cherished daughter of the late Henry Walker Latham and Fairy Mae Crumpton Latham. She grew up alongside her brothers, the late Gerald Latham and Steavan Latham, in a home filled with love and laughter. Her journey through life was shared with her devoted husband, David K. Kent, with whom she built a beautiful life characterized by mutual respect, affection, and unwavering support.

Blessed with a nurturing spirit, Sandy was a beloved mother to her daughters, Jennifer Smith (Ken) and Amanda Gates (Juston), and her son, Ben Kent (Annie). Her role as a grandmother was one she embraced with joy and pride, doting on her eight grandchildren: Anna Kate, Mason, Abby Grace, and Lawson Smith; Elizabeth, Caleb, and Leah Gates; and Lucy Kent. Each of them was a precious gem in the treasure of her heart, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.

Sandy’s professional life was marked by a selfless dedication to others. She retired as a Special Education Teacher after nearly three decades of service, touching the lives of countless students with her kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment to their growth and well-being. Her colleagues and the families she worked with will remember her as a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope in the educational community.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Sandy was a woman of varied interests. She and her husband shared a passion for travel, exploring new places together and creating a tapestry of memories. Sandy also had a fondness for shopping, with a particular affinity for the timeless beauty of antiques. These simple pleasures were a reflection of her appreciation for the past and a desire to preserve the elegance of bygone eras.

She was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and dearly loved her church family.

Above all, Sandy’s heart belonged to her family. She was the epitome of selflessness, always putting the needs of her loved ones before her own. Her loving nature was a source of comfort and strength, and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Sandy’s legacy is one of love, a testament to the profound impact she had on the lives of those around her.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m., all at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Burial will be at Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
