March 8, 1942 – December 3, 2024
Larry Ray Harrington, age 82, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, in New Albany, MS. Known affectionately as Larry, he was born in Ripley, MS, on March 8, 1942, to the late James Samuel Harrington and Agnes Corrine Buchanan Harrington. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication to family, and the simple joys found in everyday pleasures. He was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church.
Larry’s journey began as a young man in the National Guard, serving his country with pride and commitment. His sense of duty seamlessly transitioned into his professional life as a long haul truck driver. For many years, he was the dependable force behind the wheel for Mohasco and later retired from Wrangler. His work ethic and friendly nature made him a respected figure among his colleagues and within the trucking community.
At home, Larry was the epitome of a family man. He shared a loving marriage of sixty years with his loving wife, Betty Pickens Harrington, who stood by his side as his partner and best friend. Together, they raised their children, Tina Harrington Cliett and Tony Harrington (Sara), instilling in them the values of love, respect, and perseverance. Larry’s role as a grandfather to Austin Harrington (Anna), Joshua Cliett, and Zachary Cliett was one he embraced with joy, his eyes always lighting up with pride at their accomplishments and milestones.
Larry’s legacy includes his sister, Linda Dichiara (Charlie), and two sister-in-laws, Mary Harrington and Elaine Harrington, who will cherish the memories of his warmth and friendship. His life was also touched by the loss of his dear brothers, Bill Harrington and David Harrington, and his son-in-law, Richard Cliett, all of whom he remembered with love and honor.
Known for his handy nature, Larry could often be found in his workshop, where woodworking was not just a hobby but a passion. His creations were a reflection of his meticulous attention to detail and his desire to craft pieces that could be enjoyed by his family and friends. Larry’s legacy as a craftsman lives on in the beautiful works he left behind, each a symbol of his talent and creativity.
Those who knew Larry would describe him as loving and friendly—someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like an old friend.
