Freddie J. Flatt, 86

TUPELO — Freddie J. (Sonny) Flatt, 86, passed away January 9, 2025 at the North MS Medical Center Hospice Unit after an extended illness. He was born on May 10, 1938 in Yorkville, Tennessee to Howard and Pauline Flatt. Sonny attended public school and graduated from Trimble High School. After graduation, he joined the Army where he was stationed in Germany as a helicopter mechanic. After his military service, Sonny returned to his hometown where he married Frances Davis and started a family. They moved to Memphis where Sonny started his career with the National Life and Accident Insurance Company as a sales rep and later sales manager. After a distinguished 38-year-career, Sonny retired and began to enjoy activities he loved to do. He mowed yards, sometimes at no cost, and dabbled in woodworking. Sonny also loved to fish, especially with his sons and favorite fishing partner, Larry Graves. Sonny was a good soldier, husband, father and friend. He will always be remembered as a good man.



Sonny is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Davis Flatt; two sons, Fredrick of Tupelo, MS, and Paul (Rochelle) of Saltillo, MS; three grandchildren, Bryan (Brooke) of Nashville, TN, Jordan (Audry) of Fulton, MS, and Jace of Tupelo, MS; one brother, Richard Flatt of Newbern, TN; two great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Pauline Flatt; two sisters, Joy Williams and Jean Powers; and one son, Mike Ingram.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Duncan, James Volner, Jacob Volner, Chad Davis, Keith Williams, and Stephen Williams.

Visitation will be at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo, Mississippi Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 3 PM to 5 PM. Visitation and funeral services will be at Johnson and Williams Funeral Home in Newbern, Tennessee starting at 1 PM. Family graveside service will follow at McCorkle Cemetery in Churchton, Tennessee.
