Robert Henry “Harry” McGrath, 63
November 5, 1961 – January 26, 2025
Robert Henry McGrath, known as Harry to most everyone who knew him, departed this life Sunday January 26, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, MS.
A service celebrating Mr. Harry’s life will be held at a later date. Ripley Funeral Home is honored to serve his family.
Born November 5, 1961, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late James F. McGrath, Jr. and Marguerite Cornell Sullivan. He was a graduate of De La Salle High School and enlisted in the United States Navy, where assisted on the USS Ranger, proudly serving his country. A Jack of all trades, and master of a few, Mr. Harry could do anything he put his mind to. In earlier years, he was a baker and caterer who owned a deli shop, before moving to North Mississippi, where he worked as a carpenter, helping folks with any job they may have.
A Christian, Mr. Harry’s favorite pastimes included all things guitars, for he was quite a collector, and listening to classic rock, for his favorite bands consisted of Def Leppard, and The Grateful Dead. He posed a strong-willed personality and never failed to speak his version of the truth. Although he wasn’t one to “sugar coat” anything, the love he had for his family and friends was clear to see, as he took pride in protecting them closest to him and helping anyone in need. No stone was left unturned in how he lived his life, and his legacy will forever live on as a fine fellow who faithfully served his country, a wonderful brother that always encouraged and rooted for his family, and true friend to so many.
Those left to cherish his memories include one brother, Patrick McGrath and his wife, Kelly Ann, two sisters, Elizabeth Summitt, and her husband, Gary, and Catherine Dougherty, and her husband, Thomas, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
He is also preceded in death by two brothers, George Sullivan and John Sullivan, his step farther, George A. Sullivan.
