Jimmy Wayne “Red” Mathis, 60

April 25, 1964 – February 26, 2025

Jimmy Wayne “Red” Mathis, 60, resident of Ripley, departed this life following a brief illness on Thursday, February 26, 2025. A Graveside Service remembering the life of Red will be at 11 AM Friday, February 28 in the Roger’s Chapel Cemetery.

Red was born April 25, 1964, in Ripley, the son of Imogene Bartlett Mathis of Ripley and the late Wayne Mathis. He received his education from Ripley High School and was a mechanic throughout his life.

Red will be remembered as a strong willed and very outgoing person, yet he had a servant’s heart and took pride in everything he did. Red’s hobbies reflected his deep-rooted passion for rural life. He found joy in riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, taking a drive on the back roads, southern rock music, the stars and bars. His love for his family was first priority and he enjoyed every opportunity to share time with them, especially being “Pawpaw Red” to his granddaughter, Ronnie Ann.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalms 23

In addition to his mother, Imogene, he leaves two sons, Roger Wayne Mathis of Ripley and Austin Lee Mathis (Christina) of Falkner, his much-adored granddaughter, Ronnie Ann and many friends.

He is also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, BG and Dora Bartlett.

Red’s family would like to thank Barbara, Jeffery, Joe and Cassie Childs for treating him like family and also a thank you to the Ripley Fire Department for their help and patience during this difficult time.
