Shelby Jean Swann McClellan, known to all as simply Shelby, completed her earthly journey on April 18, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto in Southaven, MS. Born on May 6, 1937, in Union County, MS, Shelby lived a rich and fulfilling life, marked by her quiet strength and enduring love for her family.
Shelby graduated from Ingomar High School in 1955, and over the years, embraced her role as a dedicated homemaker, creating a welcoming home filled with warmth and kindness. She found joy in the simplicity of life, cherishing moments spent with her family, who were her greatest pride.
Though Shelby’s beloved husband, Joe E. McClellan, her daughter Tami Suzanne McClellan, and her brother Sammy Swann predeceased her, their memories continued to be a guiding light in her life. She is survived by a loving family including her daughter Debbie Berryhill and her husband Rusty, her son Phil McClellan and his wife Anita, her bonus daughter Barbara Green with her husband Tom, and her brother Jimmy Swann along with his wife Judy.
Shelby’s legacy continues to blossom through her grandchildren Brian Cooksey (Dana), Heather Mitchell (Torrey), Suzanne Roberts, Christian McClellan, Drew Dillard, Ben Berryhill (Cinda), and Haley Hennessey (Connor), as well as her cherished great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Cooksey, Amber Cooksey, Lane Mitchell, Brody Berryhill, Ann Clark Hennessey, William Hennessey, and James Hennessey. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each one holding a special place in her heart.
A woman of few words, Shelby had an interesting personality that shone brightly in her love for gospel music, her enjoyment of travel to Gospel Singings, and her delight in watching game shows like Jeopardy and The Price is Right. In the silence she preferred, Shelby’s actions spoke a language of compassion and unwavering support, reflective of a life beautifully lived.
A visitation will be on Monday, April 21, 2025 at United Funeral Service from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service time at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Johnny Rakestraw will officiate. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Cooksey, Christian McClellan, Torrey Mitchell, Lane Mitchell, Connor Hennessey, Keith Anderson, Ben Berryhill and Carl Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Wallerville Baptist Church Building Fund.
