David Cantrell, 69
June 22, 1955 – June 3, 2025
Saltillo – David Rodney Cantrell, 69, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at AMG Specialty Hospital, following an extended illness. Born on June 22, 1955, to the late Clarence John “Hoppy” Cantrell and Frances Ruth Robbins Cantrell, he lived a life rooted in family, faith, and simple joys.
A lifelong Mississippian and proud resident of Saltillo for over 40 years, David was known for his adventurous spirit, easygoing nature, and deep love for those around him. He found joy in the outdoors, especially fishing. He was often side by side with his father, with whom he shared a close bond and a passion for their family-run recreational business. David also had a lifelong love for music and was always ready for a friendly game of pool or a good visit with friends.
On October 10, 1977, David married the love of his life, Joyce, in Tupelo, Mississippi. Their enduring marriage was a testament to unwavering love, friendship, and shared faith. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, David’s greatest pride was his family—especially his beloved grandchildren who brought him endless joy. His faithful companion, his loyal dog, was never far from his side.
David was a longtime and faithful member of Asbury Methodist Church, where he found spiritual strength and a sense of community.
He will be remembered for his gentle heart, quiet wisdom, witty sense of humor, and the warmth he brought to those blessed to know him.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cantrell; daughters, Brandy Cook (Carson) of Fulton, Mississippi, and Emily Boxx (Cody) of Booneville, Mississippi; grandchildren, Mason Cook, Tate Cook, Piper Boxx, and Blakely Boxx; and sisters Janice Hartline (Mike), and Carol Shirley (Brad), both of Saltillo, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence John Cantrell and Frances Ruth Robbins Cantrell.
