Neva Lynn James, 82

September 1, 1942 – June 1, 2025

Neva Lynn James, age 82, finished her earthly walk on Sunday, June 1, 2025, as she peacefully departed this life at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Funeral services honoring her life will be at 2 PM on Friday, June 6, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home, with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of service on Friday at Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Church Cemetery in Walnut, Mississippi.

Born on September 1, 1942, in Tippah County, Ms. Neva Lynn was one of six children of the late William Epp and Zillian Matildia Hopper James. She received her education through the Tippah County Public School System and dedicated more than forty faithful years of service to the Tippah County Hospital. What began as a job in housekeeping quickly became her ministry—an extension of her heart. Through decades of work, she became a beloved presence in the halls of the hospital, known not just for her meticulous care, but for her unwavering kindness and deep compassion. Whether it was a word of encouragement, a listening ear, or a warm smile, Ms. Neva Lynn made it her mission to help others feel seen, valued, and loved. She had the rare gift of turning ordinary moments into opportunities for grace.

A proud Baptist and devoted Christian, Ms. Neva Lynn lived out her faith daily—not just in word, but in deed. She was a firm believer in serving others, often putting their needs before her own. Her quiet generosity came in many forms: a thoughtful trinket that reminded her of someone, a gentle piece of advice, or simply her steady, prayerful presence. She truly embodied the scripture from Galatians 5:13, “By love serve one another.”

She found joy in life’s simple blessings—listening to gospel music (especially Alan Jackson, her favorite), taking daily walks, and spending hours on the phone with those she held dear. Her daughter, Lori, held a special place in her heart, and her two grandchildren brought her much joy. Her love for her family was boundless, and her legacy of selfless love will live on through them and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Her earthly work may be done, but her spirit of kindness, faith, and loving service will forever echo in the lives she touched

Those left to carry on her legacy include one daughter, Lori Campbell, two grandchildren, Allyson Campbell and Rowan Cooper Campbell, one sister, Lela Ruth Mayo, and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Umberger, and Inez Thrasher, and two brothers, William James Jr. and Clifford James.

Family invites you to share memories with Ms. Neva Lynn’s family.
