Tommy Baker, 74
June 10, 1950 – June 5, 2025
Thomas Perry Baker died on June 5, 2025 at home. He was born June 10, 1950 in New Albany, Mississippi, to the late Leroy and Moeselle Baker. Tom was a loving father, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He was a graduate of Myrtle High School in 1968. He attended the University of Mississippi where he was awarded the Taylor Medal, which is the highest academic honor awarded to undergraduate students. He loved all sports. He was an avid Rebel fan traveling far and wide to support them. He was also a loyal supporter of New Albany Tennis and volleyball teams.
After finishing college, Tom was employed as a salesman at Harwell Distributing Company. He later was co-owner of Carquest Auto Parts Store. He also worked as a rural carrier with the US Postal Service for many years. He worked as an employee at Cine movie theater and was a co-owner and later an employee of The Movie Reel theater in New Albany.
Tom was a faithful member at First Baptist Church of New Albany. He was a member of the Mike Bennett Sunday School Class.
He is survived by a son, Matt Baker and his wife, Dawn of Saltillo, MS. He also is survived by a sister, Gloria Scott of New Albany, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Baker and Moeselle Baker, and his brother in law, Ronald Scott. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who he loved to support in all of their activities.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 8 at First Baptist Church of New Albany from 1:30 – 3:00 pm with a memorial service at 3:00 pm with Dr Andrew Chesteen officiating.
Pallbearers will his Nephews , Dr Brad Scott, Shea Scott, Jason Brown, Cooper Scott, Jack Scott, Sawyer Scott, Baker Brown, Banks Brown, and Harrison Scott.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Tate, Mike Beam, Byrne Phyfer and members of the Mike Bennett Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church New Albany.
Memorials may be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church New Albany.
