Herman D. Robbins, 87

August 18, 1937June 9, 2025

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love has shown us the way.”

Herman D. Robbins, age 87, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County, following a brief illness.

Funeral Services honoring Mr. Robbins’ life will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in the Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care with Bro. Joey Moody and Bro. Steve Denton officiating.  Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in the Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care and will continue Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10 AM until the time of service in the Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care.  A graveside service will take place in the Ingomar Cemetery, where Mr. Robbins will receive his “last ride” in a horse-drawn wagon.

Born on August 18, 1937, in Union County, Mr. Robbins was the son of the late Bertie Lou Robbins. He was married to the late Mary Lois (Dolly) Robbins for over sixty years, and he missed her tremendously. He would often say, “I’m just ready to go home to be with her.” He received his education from Pinedale School and was later employed with Kay Furniture, where he worked in shipping and enjoyed the friendships made along the way.

A Christian and a member of the Apostolic Revival Center in Union County, Mr. Robbins was a man of few words and who never raised his voice, and lived by the motto of “you better listen when I talk.”  Whether he was casting a line in his favorite fishing spot, attending a fish fry, enjoying a peaceful trail ride with his ponies and grandchildren, spending time at his barn and in his garden, or just “piddlin’”, he found peace and happiness in his everyday life.  Although we will miss him, we find comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved “Dolly” and his memory will forever be cherished by everyone who knew and loved him.

His memory will continue to be cherished by one son, Greg Robbins (Pam), four much adored grandchildren, Colten Robbins (Casey), Kyle Robbins (Amelia), Austin Robbins (Paige), and Carly Robbins, eight treasured great-grandchildren, Addie, Henley, Bryson, Langley, Millie Rae, Harley, Case, and one great-grandson on the way, and two step-grandchildren that he treated as his own, Jon-Brooks Almand and Jack Toler.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Colten, Kyle, and Austin Robbins, Hugh Grisham, Brad Raines and Jon-Brooks Almand.  Serving as honorary pallbearers are Bryson, Carly, and Case Robbins and Rex Smith.

He is preceded in death by his mother, his wife, Mary Lois “Dolly” Robbins, one daughter, Linda Robbins, and two brothers, Terry and Jerry Robbins.

New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care invites you to share memories with the Robbins family.
