Roye Langford, 89
December 17, 1935 – June 20, 2025
TUPELO – Roye Ann Land Langford died peacefully at her home in Tupelo on Friday, June 20, 2025, after a short illness. She was 89. Roye, known affectionately as Miss Roye, was born in Greenville on Dec. 17, 1935, to Hazel Scott and Roy Mason Land. She grew up in the Mississippi Delta and graduated from Clinton High School. She attended Mississippi State College for Women (MUW) and graduated in 1957 with a degree in biology. That same year, she married David Lawrence Langford, a Mississippi A&M (MSU) student, and together they raised three children, Kay, Charlie and Pat.
Because of David’s job as a journalist, the family often moved around the South, living in Tupelo, Birmingham, Huntsville, Miami and Orlando, before moving to Connecticut. Some of her fondest memories were of the years she spent living in Manhattan, where she was a docent at the Museum of Natural History. She moved back to Tupelo in 1998 to be near her family.
Roye worked at Brown Engineering in Huntsville; managed properties with her job at CPI in Manhattan; and finished her career at age 77 at the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo, where she was the office manager.
Roye loved gardening, and her yard in Tupelo was a showplace filled with flowers, shrubs, garden paths, statuary, and too many birdhouses to count. She was a gourmet cook, a voracious reader, and an opera buff, and she enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword puzzle daily. Some of her best friends were the cats and dogs she took in and loved over the years.
Roye is survived by her sister, Carrie Carlson of Brandon; her son, Charles Langford (Ginna) of Tupelo; her daughter, Patricia Methven (Chris) of Chicago; her son-in-law, Harold Warren (Carol-Anne) of Orlando; grandchildren Jennifer Macias (Nick) of Apple Valley, Calif.; Mary Proctor (John Jordan) of Memphis; Patrick Langford of Saltillo; and Clay Warren and Alex Warren of Orlando; great-granddaughter Zoie Macias of Apple Valley; brother-in-law Ronnie Delmas of Pascagoula; and six nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Laura Kay Warren; her sisters, Virginia Scott Delmas and Ladye Rachel Land; and her brother-in-law, Dr. David Carlson.
A Celebration of Life reception will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Holland Funeral Directors – Tupelo Chapel is honored to serve the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regional Rehabilitation Center, 615 Pegram Drive, Tupelo, MS 38801; or the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society, P.O. Box 2143, Tupelo, MS 38802.
