U.S.Congressman Trent Kelly, in a telephone conversation with NAnewsweb.com late Tuesday evening, said, “I am honored that the voters chose me as the Republican nominee in the First District race. We will continue to work to stay close to the people we serve, to remain accessible and to spend a lot of time in the district.”

Kelly handily won nomination for a full term in the House of Representatives. He received 92% of the Republican votes in Union County and won by a similar landslide throughout the First District.

Kelly defeated 12 other candidates in a non-partisan special election last year. He was elected to serve most of a two-year term to which Congressman Alan Nunnelee was elected in November 2014. Nunnelee died just one month into his third term.
