Evie Smith, 94

February 23, 1931 – August 7, 2025

Evie Lee Johnson Smith, 94, passed away peacefully in her residence in New Albany, MS on August 7, 2025. She was born on February 23, 1931, in Dolomite, Alabama

The beloved daughter of the late George Robert Johnson and Eve Lee Tingle Johnson, Evie grew up surrounded by a bustling household that included her cherished brother, George Wayne Johnson (Kathy), along with two brothers and a sister who preceded her in death. She eventually found her life’s companion in Charles Robert Smith, who predeceased her, but together they built a legacy of love and family.

Evie’s heart was always at home. A devoted mother to her daughter Margaret Dail (Lee), she considered her role as a homemaker to be her crowning achievement. The joy of her life continued to multiply with the births of her two grandchildren, Cassandra Roberts and Robert Paul Murphree (Alice), who were followed by two great-grandchildren, Dakota Hunter Roberts and Brittany Michelle Murphree, and two cherished great-great-grandchildren.

While Evie’s hands were full with the joys of raising a daughter and assisting in the upbringing of her granddaughter and grandson, she relished in staying busy and being involved. As a former factory worker, she knew the value of hard work and brought the same dedication and care to all her endeavors. Later in life, her interests blossomed to include hobbies such as cross-stitching, which allowed her to share beautiful creations with those she loved. Additionally, she found great joy in playing cards and bingo, pastimes that brought light and laughter to her and her family.

Evie’s absence will be profoundly felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her, but her legacy of love, generosity, and strength will continue to live on. Though she may have departed from this earth, the memory of Evie Lee Johnson Smith will forever be etched in the hearts of her family, friends, and all the lives she touched.
