Gennie Baker, 76

February 10, 1949 – August 27, 2025

Virginia Ruth DeCanter Baker, affectionately known as Gennie to friends and family, embraced her heavenly journey on August 27, 2025, while at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Born to the late Leroy and Mary Ruth Lollar DeCanter in Ripley, MS, on February 10, 1949, her life was a testament to the power of kindness, spirit, and the love of the natural world.

Gennie’s vibrancy was matched only by her loving nature, which she extended to her beloved husband, Charles Baker, with whom she shared a passion for deer hunting and moments of serenity in the woods. Her dedication and love also extended to her brothers, Travis DeCanter and Mitchell DeCanter (Edna), who stood by her side throughout her life’s journey. She was predeceased not only by her parents but also by her precious little daughter, Jessica Leigh Baker, and her dear sister, Rachel Sue DeCanter, all of whom were greeted with the same tender embrace by Gennie as they went before her.

During her time with us, she displayed remarkable versatility in her work, contributing her talents to local factories, a library, and a photography studio. In each role, she brought a sense of dedication and warmth, enriching the lives of those she worked with and served.

A Christian, Gennie found solace and purpose in her faith, contributing to her community as a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Her spirituality was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life’s challenges and joys.

A visitation will be on Friday, August 29, 2025 at United Funeral Service from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025 at United. Burial will be at Vista Memorial Park.
