Ryans Well Community/Tupelo – Mr. Owen Marcus Thomas, 98, died Sunday, September 28, 2025 at his daughter’s home in Tupelo where he lived the last several years surrounded by family. He was born February 20, 1927 in Fulton, Mississippi to Finis Thomas and Verdie Adams Thomas. Owen was patriotic, serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany during WWII. Upon being released from the military he married Jessie Hazel Davis September 26, 1948 and they were married 76 years until her death August 21, 2023. Owen was known affectionately as Pawpaw by his family. He was an avid painter, loved fishing, hunting, and was a left-handed fiddler. He loved playing gospel music and Bill Monroe songs. He was the oldest member of Harrisburg Baptist Church, but the last few years attended Life at Tupelo.
A celebration of Mr. Thomas’ life and home-going with military honors will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2025 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. David Smith and Rev. Dr. Jay Carney officiating. Private burial will follow at Sandy Springs Cemetery in the Ryan’s Well Community, north of Fulton, MS. Visitation will be from 10 AM to service time Wednesday only.
Survivors include his children, Steve Thomas (Stephanie) of Tupelo, Janice Timmons of Tupelo, and Martha Thomas of Garner, NC; grandchildren, Kristie Dye (Brooks), Barrett Loague (Cailen), and Ana Davis Thomas and Emilee Thomas; great-grandchildren, Lauren Lovell (Hunter), Avery Dye, Kayson Chism (Abigail), and Adalynn and Annisten Loague; and great-great grandchildren, Easton, Baylor, and Riley Lovell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Pallbearers will be Barrett Loague, Brooks Dye, Kayson Chism, Mike Collum, Hunter Lovell and Tommy Dale Holcomb.
