Born August 27, 1938, in Germany to the late Franz and Kathernina Lechlmann Peter, Mrs. Hanna was one of seven children. She later moved to Mississippi with her husband, the late John W. Scruggs, and together they raised four daughters. John and Hanna shared fifty-one years of marriage before his passing in 2011.
Mrs. Hanna was a woman who deeply loved the Lord. Anyone who met her could see her faith within moments of knowing her. She had a giving heart, always willing to help others, and often encouraged her family to “do kind things for others whenever you can.” Finding joy in the simple things of life, she loved tending to her rose garden, enjoying her daily blueberry bread from Nichols each morning, and keeping a steady routine. She loved flowers beyond measure, especially carnations, and always enjoyed getting a special bouquet delivered to her door from her beloved granddaughter, Kellie.
Mamaw, as she was affectionately known, had a playful spirit. She enjoyed sweets, watching preaching on TV, and relaxing with classic cartoons like Tom & Jerry and Bugs Bunny. She loved her faithful dog, Sissy, and delighted in her visits to the Salvation Army, where she often found little treasures. Above all, Mrs. Hanna loved her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, especially her best friend and constant companion, Jasey. Her world revolved around Jasey, and she lived each day with her in mind. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Patsy Kidd of New Albany, MS, Ruby King of Tennessee, and Kathy Kellerman of West Virginia, five grandchildren, Kellie, Jason, Elizabeth, Adam and Michael, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Annelies Kretschmann of Germany, and two brothers, Anno and Franzel Peter, both of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Scruggs, one daughter, Judy Carlisle, one sister, Elenore Schussler, and three brothers, Bernd, Uli, and Siegfried Peter.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Jason Kidd, Adam Scruggs, Merrell Kimbrell, Jake Duquette, David Clayton and Brian Adair.
