Jerry Lynn “Pops” Whitehead, 70
January 29, 1955 – November 10, 2025
Jerry Lynn “Pops” Whitehead, age 70, departed his walk in this earthly world and entered into his Heavenly Home on Monday, November 10, 2025, at his residence in New Albany, Mississippi.
A memorial service honoring Pop’s life will be held privately on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, with interment at 2 PM Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Martintown Cemetery in New Albany, Mississippi. The family deeply appreciates the continued prayers, love, and support shown during this season of sorrow.
Born on January 29, 1955, in New Albany, Pops was the son of the late James and Maxine Benefield Whitehead. He was a proud 1977 graduate of W. P. Daniel High School and spent his career in the maintenance and manufacturing industry, where his work ethic and dependability earned him great respect. A skilled welder and electrician, he devoted twenty-five years to Ertl Manufacturing, before his retirement.
A Christian and deeply thoughtful man, Pops was known for his humble wisdom and the kindness he carried wherever he went. He firmly believed that we are all placed on this earth to help one another, and he lived that truth every day. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, lend a hand before being asked, and expect nothing in return. His quiet generosity, steady spirit, and gentle humor made him someone everyone was proud to call a friend.
Pops found peace and purpose in the simple joys of life. He loved the great outdoors, whether casting a line while fishing, tending to his garden, or cooking up something special to share with his loved ones. He was happiest when surrounded by family, especially his children and grandchildren, who brought endless pride and light into his days. A true craftsman at heart, he enjoyed piddling with projects — always tinkering, fixing, or creating something useful with his own two hands.
Those blessed to have known Pops will remember him as a man of integrity, compassion, and quiet strength — someone whose life spoke volumes even when his words were few. Though his earthly presence will be greatly missed, there is comfort in knowing that he is now resting in perfect peace, reunited with loved ones gone before, and walking the golden streets of Heaven with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
Those left to carry on his legacy include his son, Nathan Whitehead (Barbara Hastings), one brother, Don Raymond Whitehead (Lisa), three grandchildren, Chasity Hamm (Codey), Zack Whitehead, and Brooklyn Anderson, and two great grandchildren, Silas and Luna Hamm, along with a wide circle of friends and family.
He is also preceded in death by one daughter, April Delane, and Brenda Joyce Sawyer.
