George “Cocklebur” Nolley, 49
August 31, 1976 – December 8, 2025
George Augustus “Cocklebur” Nolley, age 49, a beloved, brother, uncle, and dear friend, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2025, in Myrtle, Mississippi. Born in New Albany on August 31, 1976, George lived a life marked by genuine love, kindness, and thoughtfulness that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
George dedicated more than two decades of his career to Riverside Traffic Services, where his work ethic and amicable nature made him a valued employee and a cherished colleague. His strong family bond was central to his life, guiding him in his daily pursuits and providing comfort to those around him.
Known fondly as “Cocklebur” to friends and family, he had a passion for the outdoors that defined much of his life. Whether riding his International Tractor, meticulously cutting and putting up hay, or tending to his cows, George found joy in the rhythms of nature. He was an avid hunter and reveled in the peacefulness it brought to his soul.
George’s heart was most full when spending time with his beloved friends and family, with whom he regularly shared meals and laughter. He is survived by two sisters, Hazel Carroll and Joann Caples (Phillip Caples), two brothers, James Nolley Jr., Johnny Nolley (Karen), and his beloved nieces and nephews, Jamie Bates, Jeannie Jennings, Amber Killough, Chris Caples, Justin Caples, and Kagan Nolley. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Virgil and Ruth Frazier Nolley.
George’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the memories of those he leaves behind. His thoughtful presence brought light and warmth to every gathering. Although his time with us was shorter than we hoped, the imprints he left on our hearts are indelible.
Services to honor his life will be on Thursday, December 11th at 2:00pm at United Funeral Service. A visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00pm-8:00pm and on Thursday from 1:00-2:00 also at United. Burial will be at Union Hill
