Ethel Pearl Shumpert, 91

September 22, 1934 – November 30, 2025

Ethel Pearl Shumpert was born on September 22, 1934, in Plantersville, Mississippi, to the late Clyde Bell and Frankie Mae Bell.  On November 30, 2025, Ethel peacefully answered God’s call and entered eternal rest.  Ethel was one of seven children and was preceded in death by one sister, Lola Mae Strayhorn, and four brothers: Clyde Bell, Jr. (Buddy), James Murphy Bell, Joe Phillip Bell, and Benjamin Franklin Bell.

At an early age, Ethel accepted Christ as her Savior and remained a faithful member of New Chapel United Methodist Church in Plantersville throughout her life.  Although she lived in Florida for the past two years, she always sought ways to stay virtually connected with her church, family, and friends at home.

Ethel graduated from Plantersville High School in April 1954.  She proudly played on the girls’ basketball team and fondly talked about the times she played against her sister, Lola, who was on a rival team. Her love for the game stayed with her throughout her life.

In May 1963, Ethel was united in marriage to Kelly D. Shumpert, and together they raised seven children. She enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Red Kap Industries, where she built many lasting friendships.  Known for her love of travel, her passion for cooking, and her infectious sense of humor, Ethel brought warmth, laughter, and joy wherever she went.  Her presence truly brightened every room.

Ethel leaves to cherish her memories: one sister, Shirley Bell James; four daughters: Gloria Holland (Leon), Jacqueline Shumpert, Jacquelyn Catledge, and Sharon Franklin (Talvis); three sons: Raymond Shumpert, Gerald Shumpert, and Steve Shumpert; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, a special friend, Eppie Whitfield, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
