Michael R. McMillen, 77
March 13, 1948 – December 23, 2025
Michael R. McMillen, known affectionately to his friends and family as Mike, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at NMMC in Tupelo, MS, at the age of 77. Born on March 13, 1948, in Memphis, TN, Mike grew up to be a man of resilience, charm, and a charismatic presence that drew people to him.
Mike’s life was marked by both challenges and triumphs. At a young age, a swimming accident led to a disability that would shape his life’s journey. Nevertheless, he channeled his passion and energy into becoming a horse trainer, a profession that allowed him to work with the animals he so dearly loved. His presence at the Sale Barn was a constant, and he was well-known and respected in the community for his friendly demeanor.
Despite the physical setbacks he faced, Mike’s entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly. He found joy and purpose in selling hats and belts at rodeos and fairs, a testament to his love for the rodeo culture and his knack for connecting with people from all walks of life. His warm smile and engaging conversations were a staple at these events, and he relished the opportunity to share stories and laughter with both old friends and strangers.
Mike’s interests went beyond horses and rodeos. He was an enthusiastic member of the CB Radio Club, where he was fondly known by his handle, “Honeybun.” His voice was a familiar and welcome presence on the airwaves, and he cherished the camaraderie and community he found among his fellow CB radio enthusiasts.
Those who knew Mike would describe him as an interesting and friendly man, traits that were evident in every aspect of his life. He had a knack for making every conversation memorable and every encounter meaningful. His infectious laughter and genuine interest in others’ lives made him a beloved figure in his community.
Mike is survived by his nephew, Randy Miller; his brother, Chamus McMillen; and his special friends and caregivers, Tim Holladay and Melanie Holladay, who stood by him with unwavering support and compassion. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. McMillen and Sally Dyson McMillen, and his brothers, Bobby Miller, and George Dale Miller. The legacy of love and friendship that Mike leaves behind will be cherished and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
As we say see ya later to Mike McMillen, we celebrate a life lived with courage, joy, and an unyielding spirit. His memory will continue to inspire and his story will be told with admiration for years to come. Mike’s departure from this world marks not an end, but a transition to eternal peace.
