Peggy Joyce Glasgow McVay, 83
September 6, 1942 – January 17, 2026
Peggy Joyce Glasgow McVay left this world Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the age of 83. She was residing at Shearer Richardson Memorial Nursing Home in Okolona, MS.
She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Peggy was born on September 6, 1942, in Pontotoc County to Eula Hudson Glasgow and Winford Glasgow. She grew up in Thaxton, MS and professed her faith in Jesus at an early age. Peggy married David Kenneth McVay on July 30, 1960. They moved to Okolona, MS soon after their marriage and made it their home for the next 64 years. They were married for 62 years when Kenneth passed on July 2, 2022.
Peggy loved her church, family and community. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Okolona where she served faithfully for many years. She cherished her church and loved praising the Lord. She was most proud of the 30 years she spent teaching Bible classes and loving on the residents at Shearer Richardson Nursing Home.
The city of Okolona held a special place in her heart, and she worked feverishly as the Director of the Chamber of Commerce for several years to make it a special community. Her other passions included decorating, maintaining her yard, her many pets and faithful exercising. She also had a special talent for sewing and was an excellent seamstress. But nothing compared to the love she had for her family.
The family would like to invite you to her Celebration of Life to be held at First Baptist
Church in Okolona, MS on Friday, January 23, 2026. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 with the service following at 2:00. Memorials can be made to The Gideons International at www.sendtheword.org Holland Funeral Directors are honored to be serving their friends.
She is survived by her and Kenneth’s two children, David W. McVay (Brenda) and Missy McVay Brown (George); her sister, Nadine Glasgow Pannell and her brother Quay Glasgow; three grandchildren, Stuart McVay, Ellis McVay, and Shelbie Brown Blackford (Riley) and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jake, Jamison and Addison. She leaves behind several beloved nieces and one nephew.
